The Wolfman (2010) Review

Author: Joe Nobles

This movie is about Lawrence Talbot, a haunted nobleman, which is lured back to his family estate, after his brother vanishes. Reunited with his estranged father, Talbot sets out to find his brother and discovers a horrifying destiny for himself. Talbot’s childhood ended the night his mother died. After he left the sleepy Victorian hamlet of Blackmoor, he spent decades recovering and trying to forget. But when his brother’s fiancée, Gwen Conliffe, tracks him down to help find her missing love, Talbot returns home to join the search. He learns that something with brute strength and insatiable bloodlust has been killing the villagers, and that a suspicious Scotland Yard inspector named Aberline has come to investigate.

If you enjoyed the original Wolfman, with Lon Channy Jr., you probably won’t like this version. I thought they did a terrible job on this remake. The storyline was completely different and most of the original story was left out. The only things I thought was good, in this version, was the special effects and the bloodshed. They did show more of the werewolf, than the original did, too. I just didn’t like the different storyline and added features. Also, they never explained how he got his wolf’s head cane, like the original did. In this version, it’s owned by the father, instead of by Lawrence.

If the wolfman didn’t die in the original and they called this part 2, it might have been a lot better. I just see why they want to try to remake a classic and then completely destroy it. The setting on this movie was the only thing that seemed the same. They also kept most of the same character names. For example, the original name of the wolfman was Larry Talbot. Now, it’s Lawrence Talbot. Another weird thing was, in this version, the gypsy was a female. On the original, it was a male, which was played by Bela Lugosi. Another thing they did away with was the fortune being told, as well. I didn’t like the asylum part added in, neither. I can probably point out a lot of things they changed around and did a horrible job at doing, but I won’t go into anymore details with it.

As for the actors, I thought they did a pretty good job on their roles. If you’re not sure who played the roles, Benicio Del Toro played the role of Lawrence Talbot and Anthony Hopkins played the role of Sir John Talbot, which was the father. I thought both did great on their parts, even though the movie sucked.

If you haven’t seen the original Wolfman, then you might enjoy this version. Since I enjoyed the original, I wouldn’t recommend anyone to watch this version and just see the classic one, instead. It might not have a lot of blood, like this one does, but it’s a lot more entertaining.
